I would love to try all sorts of food, however, that is definately impossible. When one dish is finished, another is invented by a creative chef. We can only experience one dish at a time, but they can be invented every second! This makes it all the more difficult to taste all. Therefore, with the lingering taste of the food in my mouth, here are the following food which I love the most.

Starter:

Kimchi

The kimchi was eaten long ago by the Koreans. This spicy and sour dish has got a variations of names that was changed as time progressed. Some of the following are: jimchi, timchae, etc

Soup:

Swensen's Clam Chowder

This soup has got clams, potatoes, carrots and, it has bread for its base. I usually use the crunchy base to dip in the soup to make it softer for my baby teeth. :D

Main Course:

Jack's Special Steak

Despite having Buddhist as family members, I still enjoy eating beef outside home. I'm not allowed to have it at home, but my parents, not my grandparents, allow me to have this delightful dish outside of the house. However, most of the time, I'm being brought to Jack's Place by my godfather and aunt.

Deserts:

Strawberries

Usually, most boys prefer chocolate whilst most girls prefer strawberries. However, I'm one of the different boys standing out from the crowd of boys. I prefer strawberries to chcolate. Most of the time, instead on chewing on it, I'll suckle on it. This allows the flavour to linger in my mouth for a long time. On the other hand, when I was young, I remember being brought to a shop in the Esplande by my my godfather and aunt, where I went to eat large amounts of chocolate. Thereafter, I went home and had to spend a long time sitting in the toliet.

Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
\To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

The above poem writes about having to, being a traveller, choose between going two paths. Two paths, one frequently travelled by people and the other, seldom travelled on. He knew what lay ahead if he travelled on the path frequently travelled. He made a decision and went for the path that was not travelled on often. it was this decision that changed his whole life.

Likwise, for us, we have to make decisions that will change our lives. It tells us that the decisions we make have impacts that will change. Therefore, we have to think very carefully before making a decision, for once decisions are made, we cannot change it.

Robert Frost (1874-1963), four-time Pulitzer Prize winning American poet, teacher and lecturer wrote many popular and oft-quoted poems including “After Apple-Picking”, “The Road Not Taken”, “Home Burial” and “Mending Wall”.

http://www.online-literature.com/frost/755/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yG24ohpacDk

Stone Villages by Joseph Brodsky

Stone Villages by Joseph Brodsky

The stone-built villages of England.
A cathedral bottled in a pub window.
Cows dispersed across fields.
Monuments to kings.

A man in a moth-eaten suit
sees a train off, heading, like everything here, for the sea,
smiles at his daughter, leaving for the East.
A whistle blows.

And the endless sky over the tiles
grows bluer as swelling birdsong fills.
And the clearer the song is heard,
The smaller the bird.
1. Let us look at the first paragraph.

The stone-built villages of England.
A cathedral bottled in a pub window.
Cows dispersed across fields.
Monuments to kings.

Personification: A cathedral BOTTLED in a pub window.
The literal meaning of 'BOTTLED' is to put something into containers to preserve them. Therefore, the meaning is this word HAS to be figurative.

Let us look at the second paragraph.

A man in a moth-eaten suit
sees a train off, heading, like everything here, for the sea,
smiles at his daughter, leaving for the East.
A whistle blows.
No figurative words here.

Let us look at the third paragraph.

And the endless sky over the tiles
grows bluer as swelling birdsong fills.
And the clearer the song is heard,
The smaller the bird.

Personification: Swelling
Personified Word: Birdsong
Personified Word's Verb: Fills

2.
The stone-built villages of England.
A cathedral bottled in a pub window.
Cows dispersed across fields.
Monuments to kings.

A man in a moth-eaten suit
sees a train off, heading, like everything here, for the sea,
smiles at his daughter, leaving for the East.
A whistle blows.

And the endless sky over the tiles
grows bluer as swelling birdsong fills.
And the clearer the song is heard,
The smaller the bird.

The first paragraph speaks of the Past. In the Past, we are not advanced in technology. Therefore, having to live in villages made of stone and having cows dispersed (to spread something over a large are) over fields signify that you are rich and wealthy, making you something like a 'King'.

The second paragraph speaks of the Future. We head towards the Future. To accomplish greater things in our lives.

The third paragraph speaks of Mother Nature - the Current Events that will happen to us or is already happening to us, the deadly Global Warming. The clearer the song is heard, the smaller the bird. I went to google this and found out that the loudness of the song is affected by how small the bird is. The smaller the bird, the louder its chirp.

RED ALERT ! As of such, physical activities - such as brisk walking, dancing, cycling or gardening are being organised to help curb the loneliness.

Mr Lim had also told reporters that he would be giving out SGD400,000 to all constituencies by 2011 to start the physical activities.

The full report will be posted on Monday.

Source: "http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_350523.html"

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://literaturehomework.blogspot.com/2009/03/red-alert-aging-issues.html' title='RED ALERT ! In just 4 months, a dozen of Singaporean females have been caught compared to the meagre 8 caught over a span of 5 years. Among the 12 caught, 2 are facing the death penalties.

Typically, the women were told to fly from Singapore to another country to pick up the drug stash, and then on to a third to drop it off. The Straits Times reported last month that some women were stopped at airports of countries including Japan, Britain, Argentina, China and Australia, with drugs like heroin and cocaine.

One case involved a woman being caught in Melbourne in 2007 with 64 pellets of cocaine. She had met her boyfriend 3 years ago while shopping in Raffles City and he had claimed to be an exporter of used electronic to Nigeria. Their relationship continued even after he was repatriated to Nigeria, where he arranged for them to meet in Bangkok for a rendezvous. It was there that he asked her to become his drug mule and carry a drug run for him. All she had to do was fly to Melbourne and pass the drugs to a third party before returning to Bangkok.

This shows the severe problem of more and more Singaporean females are being used as drug mules. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has already warned Singaporeans not to be fooled.

Source: "http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking+News/Singapore/Story/STIStory_348205.html"

Singapore Needs Babies ! ! !

Singapore needs 60,000 babies to replace its population. However, it remains short of its target. In year 2008 (the previous year), it only had 39,935 babies. 20,065 extra babies are needed for this year. Each woman has to produce 2.1 babies in order to keep up with Singapore's population. In other words, 10 women have to produce 21 babies. The highest amount of babies produced since 2002 is 40,760 babies. But even that amount of babies is short of the target set by the government. The government has implemented some measures to help solve this problems. Some of this solutions include financial incentives, to encourage married Singaporeans to have more babies but these have failed to make a significant impact. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has unveiled plans worth more than $700 million that include the extension of government-paid maternity leave. As part of a method to solving this problem, the government has set its sight on luring more immigrants to Singapore. Singapore currently has a population of about 4.84 million in 2008. However, about 1 million are immigrants.

Source:"http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_349656.html?vgnmr=1"

Nothing But The Truth (Another Plausible Ending)

This fantastic book was written by Avi and its original ending can be summarised that Philip Malloy changed school and Miss Narwin resigned. However, with a little imagination, think of what other story endings can be thought of to make this book more exciting!

Here's one I thought of myself:

As Miss Narwin was Allison's favourite teacher, Allison decided to find out the truth. Was Miss Narwin as bad as it was mentioned in that article? She went around snooping for information and what she found was, Philip, in an attempt to bring Miss Narwin down, told the reporter the partial truth. What really happened was that Philip had never hummed or sang in Mr Lunser's lessons, and Philip lied that he was being patrotic to give himself an excuse of being scolded. Upon seeing evidence that Allison produced to the reporters, they decided to publish the news about whether Philip was really being patrotic. Within days, he was disgraced by the public as a liar and everyone shunned him. His parents brought him to Singapore to study upon hearing that the scholars they produced were geniuses. When the public requested from Miss Narwin to rejoin Harrison High, she rejected it and stayed with her sister 's family. It was retirement for her.

My opinions about this story:
The ending is far more saddening than the original.

What are your opinion about this alternative ending?
Write a comment about it.

It's Loud It's Wacky It's Got Charm

What am I talking about?
The one and only chinese band in Indonesia, also known as the 'Four Seasons'!
Being the only chinese band in Indonesia, they have no competition at all, making it a very lucrative business. Now that the chinese language is influencing the whole Earth, more and more people are picking it up. No doubts that the Indonesians are following suit as well.
It was the first time I went for a chinese concert and you can say that I'm greatly impressed by this concert. The female Indonesian teenagers were there as well and they were screaming at the top of their voices for them. This is a concert where everyone should have a look at. Girls, you have to beware. One look at them and you'll be bowled over by their charming looks.
The band's dream of breaking into the Taiwan music market may sound a little far-fetched to most people but there is no doubt that they'll succeed in that particular area. One day, I believe that the Indonesian band 'Four Seasons' will be recognised worldwide as the most successful boy band.

Reported by: Javier Ng (21)
1P3

Blog Prompt-Silver Workforce (School Homework)

A very good day to all of you,
Today, I would like to tell all of you about the pros and cons of hiring an older worker.

Pros:
1) They have more experience than younger workers.
2) There will be less training costs.
3) They will make less mistakes.

Cons:
1) There will be higher health costs as they are older.
2) Their salary will be higher due to the fact that they are more experienced.

As there are more pros than cons, it is to your advantage if you hire older workers.
